San Francisco Tops the List of Healthiest U.S. Cities

San Francisco was determined to be the healthiest city in the United States, according to a report by WalletHub, the personal finance website.

The determination was based on a comparison of 44 indicators of good health in more than 180 of the most populated U.S. cities. Some of the indicators include access to health care, availability of healthy food, green space availability and fitness.

The 10 healthiest cities on the list were:

No. 1: San Francisco

No. 2: Seattle

No. 3: Portland, Oregon

No. 4: San Diego

No. 5: Honolulu, Hawaii

No. 6: Washington, DC

No. 7: Austin, Texas

No. 8: Irvine, California

No. 9: Portland, Maine

No. 10: Denver, Colorado

Glendale, Arizona, and Lewiston, Maine, have the lowest average monthly cost for a gym membership at $15, which is 7.1 times less expensive than in Juneau, Alaska, the city with the highest at $107.14.

No. 4: Amarillo, Texas

No. 5: Dover, Delaware

The cities with the highest average monthly cost of fitness club membership were:

No. 171: Burlington, Vermont

No. 172 (four-way tie): New York; San Francisco; Washington, DC; and Juneau, Alaska

The cities with the highest percentage of physically active adults were:

No. 1: Seattle

No. 2: South Burlington, Vermont

No. 3 (tied): Irvine, California, and Scottsdale, Arizona

No. 5: Overland Park, Kansas

The cities with the lowest percentage of physically active adults were:

No. 178: Hialeah, Florida

No. 179: Detroit

No. 180: Newark, New Jersey

No. 181: Brownsville, Texas
