Gold’s Gym Owner RSG Group Sells McFIT Polska to Focus on Growth in North America

RSG Group, Berlin, Germany, has sold its 14 McFIT clubs in Poland to Medicover, private medical insurance provider, and plans to focus on North American growth, according to an announcement on May 17.

RSG Group started in Europe and owns 16 health and wellness brands, including the remaining more than 200 McFit clubs in Austria, Germany, Italy and Spain.

In July 2020, RSG Group purchased Gold’s Gym for $100 million in a court-approved auction as Gold’s came out of its COVID-related Chapter 11 restructuring. It was RSG Group’s first venture into franchising and into the North American market.

Since then, RSG Group has opened locations for its brand John Reed in Los Angeles in March 2021 and in Dallas in February 2022.

It also plans to open a new luxury club brand, Heitmat, this year in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles. (Heitmat means home in German.)

In April 2021, RSG Group unveiled a new sustainable design concept for Gold’s Gym at its 55,000-square-foot company-owned flagship club in Berlin. It is meant to be a proof of concept and inspiration for future Gold’s Gym locations, the company said at the time of the opening.
