Genesis Health Clubs, Wichita, Kansas, has acquired the RDV Sportsplex in Orlando, Florida, from MVP Sports Clubs for an undisclosed sum, the two companies announced on Dec. 13.
This deal is the second between the two companies. In May, Genesis purchased MVP’s Spanish Springs and Brownwood locations at The Villages, Florida, entering the Florida market for the first time.
MVP Sports Clubs now operates seven clubs in Michigan and none in Florida.
Genesis now has 61 clubs across seven states, including the three in Florida.
The 365,000-square-foot RDV Sportsplex includes RDV Athletic Club, RDV Ice Den and onsite office spaces. RDV Sportsplex will now be known as Genesis Heath Clubs – Orlando Sportsplex, and the ice center will be known as the Genesis Ice Den.
“It has been our privilege to operate and manage RDV Sportsplex for the past 25 years,” Karl Droppers, MVP Sports Clubs president, said in the announcement. “We are excited to see the new owner continue the legacy of fitness, wellness and sports in Central Florida. We know Genesis Health Clubs will be a great partner with the community and provide growth and services for years to come.”
Genesis Health Clubs Owner and President Rodney Steven II said the company is committed to fitness in Florida.
“When we enter a new market, we like to go big, and the Sportsplex is definitely big,” he said. “There’s so much under one roof, from fitness to tennis to ice skating; it has something for everyone. We’re humbled to have the opportunity to take on such a fitness institution in Florida, and we can’t wait for the members to see what we have in store.”
RDV Athletic Club members will continue their membership seamlessly with no interruptions and no price increase. Members will immediately gain access to all the other Genesis clubs, including the locations located nearby in The Villages.
“It’s a win-win for everybody,” Steven said. “We have big plans in Florida, and we can’t wait to share more.”
Earlier this month, Genesis acquired Clayview Country Club in Liberty, Missouri.
Also this year, Genesis purchased two VASA locations in Wichita.
