The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall alert on Wednesday for four models of Cybex International's arm curl machines.
Cybex, Medway, Massachusetts, recalled the products due to potential for swivel handles to break from the frame, which can cause users to hit themselves in the face or the head. Cybex has received 108 reports of incidents, including 12 reports of injury and one injury involving sight loss in one eye.
The recall affects about 4,400 units of the VR2, VR2TA, Eagle and VR3 models (see below). The products were sold by Cybex or its distributors directly to gyms from November 1996 to October 2008 for between $3,700 and $4,200.
The CPSC advises consumers to stop using the product immediately and contact Cybex for a free repair kit. Cybex can be contacted from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday at 888-678-3846. Additional support is available at cybexintl.com.
The products affected in this recall can be identified by model and serial number. Cybex and the model name are printed on the top of the machine. The serial number is located on the frame tube of the weight stack by the floor.
