Man Steals $142,000 from Metropolitan Washington YMCA

WASHINGTON, DC -- A former accounting clerk from the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington pleaded guilty earlier this week to stealing $142,000 from the organization.

Eric S. Curry, 28, of Capitol Heights, MD, stole 33 blank checks from the YMCA and forged the name of a Y official’s signature on the checks before making them out to 14 accomplices, according to The Washington Post.

Federal prosecutors said the accomplices deposited the checks, then divided the proceeds with Curry. The scam was perpetrated over four months, ending in January 2008.

On Monday, Curry pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiring to commit bank fraud, the newspaper reported. He faces three years in prison for the crime under federal law.
