Jenny Craig Will Debut in Walgreens Locations in January

Walgreens and Jenny Craig are partnering to open 100 Jenny Craig at Walgreens locations in 20 states in January, the two companies announced on Oct. 28.

The locations will offer Jenny Craig’s program, which includes private one-on-one consultations, a customized menu plan and meal delivery.

Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia and Phoenix are just some of the cities in which the Jenny Craig at Walgreens locations will open. The companies will explore other potential in-store and digital initiatives after these openings, according to the media release.

This collaboration marks the first time Jenny Craig will offer its services at a national drugstore chain in the United States and the first time customers will be able to receive personalized health and weight-loss management services at their local Walgreens.

“Jenny Craig and Walgreens are a natural fit with both companies focused on making health services—including weight loss—easily accessible, effective, personal and valuable to customers,” Monty Sharma, CEO and president of Jenny Craig, said in the media release. “The launch of Jenny Craig at Walgreens will expand our ability to attract even more consumers across the country and provide them with our scientifically proven and innovative offering that includes in-person personalized coaching, customized and prepared meal plans with convenient in-home delivery of our delicious foods.”

This isn't the first time that Jenny Craig has entered into a partnership with another brand. In 2015 when Jenny Craig and Curves were both owned by private equity firm North Castle Partners, the two companies offered dual-branded Curves and Jenny Craig locations in an effort to turn around both brands, according to the North Castle Partners website. Sharma was CEO of both brands at that time.

North Castle sold Jenny Craig in April 2019 and Curves in 2018.

The Jenny Craig at Walgreens launch is the latest initiative by Walgreens to develop neighborhood health destinations. The company also offers diagnostic lab testing, primary care, urgent care, dental and optical services at select locations.

Walgreens isn’t the only drugstore brand expanding into wellness. This summer, CVS announced it would open 1,500 wellness stores, called HealthHUB stores, by the end of 2021. The facilities will offer dietitian services, health screenings and yoga spaces. CVS opened a pilot HealthHUB in Houston in 2018.
