Garmin Smartwatch Users Increased Gym-Based Fitness Activities in 2022

Home-based fitness activities such as indoor cycling and yoga that took off during amid lockdowns in 2020 and 2021 leveled off in 2022, while indoor activities such as indoor running, indoor rock climbing and lap swimming that couldn’t be performed in a home gym rose sharply in 2022 for Garmin Smartwatch users, Garmin shared in its 2022 Garmin Connect Fitness Report.

The report, released on Dec. 12, showed the greatest activity increase in Pilates, which rose by 38 percent in 2022 compared to 2021. Lap swimming had the second highest increase at 34 percent while swimming overall increased 13 percent.

Stair climbing increased 24 percent and strength training’s increase was not far behind at 20 percent. In addition, the use of ellipticals increased 15 percent, and treadmill running increased 13 percent while indoor running activities increased 17 percent over 2021.

This is the third year that Garmin has released a report on activities of its users. Garmin based the report on data collected from Garmin Connect, which is the app on which Garmin users pair with their Garmin devices to track their fitness activities.
