Barry’s Launches Bike-Based HIIT Studio in New York City

On Sept. 10, Barry’s opened a Barry’s RIDE studio in New York City, its first studio offering a 50-minute high-intensity interval training-style class called RIDE x LIFT that replaces the treadmill with a bike, the company announced.

Located in the lower level of Barry’s existing Chelsea studio, the studio has 21 bikes and corresponding floor set-ups to offer a total of 42 spots.

RIDE x LIFT pairs low-impact, high-intensity interval training on the bike with traditional strength training on the floor. Similar to its traditional RUN x LIFT classes, RIDE x LIFT is designed so it can be done every day. Each day has an alternating muscle focus (upper body, lower body, abs and butt, total body) that enables a balanced workout and proper muscle recovery, according to the company.

The class originally launched in February 2020 as a pop up and sold out classes. Restrictions on studios and gyms due to the COVID-19 pandemic forced Barry’s to close the pop up not long after launching, which ultimately prolonged the studio’s permanent opening, a company spokesperson told Club Industry.

Barry’s RIDE has proven popular among the clientele and is attracting new clients to the studio, according to the spokesperson. The first week was completely sold out and saw 102 percent utilization.

Overall, Barry’s is thriving and outpacing pre-pandemic levels with total in-studio attendance at 120 percent, the spokesperson said.

Barry’s has 86 studios globally in 30 cities and 14 countries. The location for the next Barry’s RIDE studio has yet to be determined, but the company is receiving requests from cities all over the world, according to Barry’s.

“Innovation is a core value at Barry's and the reason why we're still growing after 24 years,” said Joey Gonzalez, Barry’s Global CEO. “Barry’s RIDE X LIFT is a natural extension, a way to broaden our community and continue delivering on our brand vision of transforming lives worldwide.”

RIDE x LIFT classes begin at $38 per class in New York City, with packages available.
