Healthtrax Fitness Centers are playing an important role in keeping usable shoes out of landfills, providing employment for adults with disabilities in Western Massachusetts and promoting sustainable development in Africa through its collaboration with ReRun Shoes.
- In April, the shoe drive, held at 14 Healthtrax locations, specifically supporting research into curbing adolescent obesity. For every pair of running shoes/sneakers received during this effort Rerun Shoes is donated $0.50 to this cause at the Friedman School of Nutrition at Tufts University and non-sneaker donations were shipped to small entrepreneurs in Africa for resale.
- Over 1,900 pairs of shoes were collected totaling over 2,200 pounds.
- Over $850 was donated to Obesity Research at Tufts University from recycling sneakers for this campaign.
“Our members have been thrilled to bring in their gently worn sneakers, cleats and shoes to Healthtrax.
