Cooper Fitness Center, Dallas, unveiled $7.5 million worth of renovations last week. The added features to the club, which covers more than 50,000 square feet and is part of the Cooper Aerobics company, includes the Cooper Spa, The Coop retail boutique and Cedars Woodfire Grill restaurant, which are all open to the public.
Renovations, which also include several pieces of new equipment, a new entrance and other amenities, began in June 2012 and were completed early this year. The renovations were originally set for $6.5 million and scheduled for completion in March 2013.
"We have made an investment in the future of fitness, where members will find a personal program that fits their interests, lifestyle and schedule," Dr. Tyler Cooper, CEO of Cooper Aerobics Enterprises, said in a statement. "From personal training to energetic group exercise, to fun and fit youth programs, we offer activities for the entire family in a beautiful, open and inspiring new setting."
Cooper Aerobics was founded by Dr. Kenneth Cooper, Club Industry's Lifetime Achievement Award recipient in 2008.
The Coopers' original Aerobics Activity Center opened in 1972. In 1981, an overnight fire destroyed the building. The Coopers rebuilt the facility that is now Cooper Fitness Center one year later.
Members of Cooper Fitness Center include Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame quarterbacks Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman, who joined the Coopers to celebrate the renovations in a media event last week.
Cooper Fitness Center, which along with The Cooper Institute is part of the 30-acre Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas, was No. 71 on Club Industry's Top 100 Clubs list last year with a reported $9.7 million in 2012 revenue.
In 2013, The Cooper Institute named Blaine Nelson as its new president and CEO.
