TRX Named One of Best Places to Work By Outside Magazine

For the third consecutive year, a national magazine has named TRX one of the best places to work in the country.

The San Francisco-based company was ranked No. 12 out of 50 selected companies by Outside, which published the fourth annual Best Places to Work list in this month’s issue. This is the second straight year that TRX has ranked in the top 15.

The list highlights companies that set a new standard for a healthy work-life balance. The Outdoor Industry Association and Best Companies Group helped compile the list during a yearlong process that selected a range of nonprofit and for-profit organizations with at least 15 employees working in the United States.

“TRX employees have an authentic dedication to not only our customers but [to] the lifestyle we encourage that highly values exercise, success and team support,” TRX CEO Randy Hetrick said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be recognized for the third consecutive year as this is a testament to our belief that healthy and active employees are more productive, motivated and less stressed both in and out of the workplace.”

Michael Roberts, executive editor of Outside, says two of the benefits that companies on the list offer their employees are on-site fitness classes and reimbursements for gym memberships. Other benefits include ski passes, organic cafeterias and opportunities for community service during work hours.

“These 50 companies are successful precisely because they support a proper work-life balance,” Roberts says. “Happy workers that feel part of an active community are guaranteed to be more engaged and productive.”

TRX has a 1,000-square-foot training center on the top floor of its headquarters, with views of the San Francisco Bay, the Bay Bridge and part of the downtown skyline. The company offers employees functional training classes at the center that include TRX Suspension Trainers and Rip Trainers. TRX also has a training center 10 blocks away from its offices that also is free to employees. That center has free personal trainers on staff and free body composition analysis and exercise tracking.

Natural Habitat Adventures, an adventure travel operator based in Boulder, CO, was ranked No. 1 on the list. Two companies with ties to the fitness industry on the list are Amer Sports Winter and Outdoor (No. 31) and Livestrong Fitness (No. 41). Amer Sports is the parent company of Precor, Woodinville, WA. Livestrong Fitness equipment is manufactured by Johnson Health Tech Inc., Cottage Grove, WI.

Chesapeake Energy Corp. is No. 23 on the list. The Oklahoma City-based oil and natural gas company boasts a 72,000-square-foot fitness center at its corporate headquarters. Chesapeake Energy Corp. won the award for best behavior modification program in both 2009 and 2010 in Club Industry’s Best of the Best contest.
