Xavier University Puts Rec Center on Hold

CINCINNATI, OH -- Administrators at Xavier University, a private, Jesuit school in Cincinnati, OH, are delaying construction of the Xavier Square project, which would have included a new campus health center and recreation center, until the economy improves.

In addition to the recreation center, Xavier Square was slated to include about 500 new student beds and an entertainment district. Covington, OH-based developer Corporex Cos. was handling the project.

However, earlier this month, the school sold $55.8 million in bonds to complete financing for a new library and business school, according to local media reports. That project, the $88 million Hoff Academic Quad, is scheduled for completion by fall of 2010.
