Columbus State University to Build New Rec Center, Cardio Theater

COLUMBUS, GA -- Columbus State University (CSU), Columbus, GA, plans to break ground on a new $26 million student recreation center next month. The project is slated for completion by October 2010.

The 100,000-square-foot rec center will house a fitness area along with an aquatics center. Special features include a cardio theater, gaming area, climbing wall, an indoor walking/running track, a lounge area, retail space and two aerobics rooms. The aquatics center will have a 25-yard lap pool, a 1-meter diving board, leisure pool, therapy pool and sauna.

CSU students will pay a $125 fee per semester to build and operate the facility. School officials said that for every semester in which students pay the fee during construction, they will receive a free six-month membership to the rec center once they graduate.

Jones Lang LaSalle, Chicago, was chosen to manage the development of the new CSU facility, as well as a new wellness center at Bainbridge College, Bainbridge, GA. The combined value of the two projects is projected at more than $50 million.
