The obesity problem in the United States continues at an epidemic proportion. Two-thirds of American adults are overweight or obese, according to the Centers for Disease Control. In the latest edition of our Follow the Fitness Leaders series, four fitness leaders share what they think the industry can do to help curb that crisis.

In 2008, the estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the United States was $147 billion. People who have obesity had medical costs that were $1,429 higher than people who were of normal weight.
