Too Cool for School? Not These University Rec Centers

The Recreation and Physical Activity Center at Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, is located a stone's throw away from Ohio Stadium, which is reflected in its glass paneling. (Photo courtesy of Ohio State University.)

Even if you don't work in a university rec center, you know that some of the coolest fitness facilities in existence today are those located on university campuses around the country. But which universities are home to the coolest rec centers? Well, Men's Health scoured the country to answer that burning question. (We suggest viewing the Men's Health story in a browser other than Internet Explorer, as it does not translate well there.)

The coolest facilities range from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, to Wabash College in Indiana to the University of Maine. Perhaps your alma mater is on the list. (If not, perhaps it made the "most impressive" list released last year by Best Value Schools.)

After viewing some of the photos and reading about the climbing walls, splash pools, picturesque views, outdoor adventures and programming offered at these facilities, I am ready to apply for a professorship at any of these universities. It makes me wish that university rec centers had been used as a recruiting tool for students when I was pursuing higher education many years ago.

Do you think your fitness facility is cooler than these facilities? If so, share in the comment section what makes your facility so cool.
