With more than 8,000 eager attendees from more than 60 countries, the IHRSA show is sure to be full of energy. And there's no doubt that there will be plenty to do. With well-known keynote speakers and numerous seminars to choose from, the opportunities for learning and networking are practically limitless over the four-day show held March 16-19 at the Moscone Center South in San Francisco.
Start the show off right, relax and raise a pint, as the spirit of Ireland overtakes at the show's official opening ceremony, “Erin Go Bragh!” Be there Wednesday, March 16, at 8 pm as live Irish music and a pint of Guinness allow for some great networking that you won't want to miss.
The first keynote speaker, nutrition guru Dean Ornish, will speak on the “Power of Lifestyle Change” on Wednesday, March 16, at 1 pm. Ornish is the president of the Preventative Medicine Research Institute and the author of the New York Times' bestselling books: Dr. Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease; Eat More, Weigh Less; and Love & Survival. With an extensive education and background in health, Ornish is sure to be enlightening.
Later that day, head over to the “Get Active America! 2005 Rally” being held at 7:30 pm. Last May, more than 150,000 Americans visited IHRSA clubs during the first Get Active America! Week, and, at this event, find out what's in store for the second edition of the industry effort to promote physical activity and prevent obesity.
Then on Thursday, March 17, join keynote speaker and former Commander in Chief of U.S. Central Command, General Tommy Franks, at 8:45 am for “Leadership, Management…and the Difference.” During the session, General Franks will illuminate the difference between managing people and leading them to be responsible, empowered and confident.
On Friday, March 18 at 9 am, be sure to catch keynote speaker Phil Jackson, who led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships in his nine years as coach and guided the Los Angeles Lakers to the 2000 and 2001 NBA title. He'll be speaking about “Creating Championship Teams,” something his record shows that he knows how to do.
The final keynote speaker on Saturday, March 19, at 1 pm will be football analyst and former Washington Redskins star quarterback, Joe Theismann. In his presentation, “Managing to Win!” Theismann will outline the game plan that brought him success both on and off the football field by urging individuals and organizations to set goals and correct errors each step of the way — an approach that's sure to build momentum.
In between keynotes, be sure to check out seminars, panels and forums covering 16 tracks. Tracks include: fitness and personal training, healthcare and wellness, human resources, leadership, management and operations, member services and retention, programming and community development, sales and marketing, special populations, supplier seminars, tennis, advocacy, behavior change strategies, combating obesity, financial analysis and program management.
If that wasn't enough to do, don't forget the trade show floor, which will open its doors on Thursday, March 17 at 1 pm. The floor will also be open for you to peruse Friday, March 18 at 11 am and Saturday, March 19 starting at 8:30 am. Expect to see countless vendors of various fitness products and services.
But don't worry about finding the time to fit in a good workout. Make sure to visit the trade show floor for early morning exercise classes and workouts at 6:30 am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
And, for one final IHRSA hurrah, check out the grand finale on Saturday, March 19 at 7 pm. Enjoy several ethnic cuisines at the closing reception as you celebrate the industry once more before leaving the streets, and the gates, of San Francisco.
