YogaWorks Acquires Yoga Tree San Francisco, Plans Additional Expansion

The deal grows YogaWorks from five studios to 13 studios in the Bay Area and increases its national footprint to 38 locations.

YogaWorks is expanding further into northern California.

The Santa Monica, California-based company acquired Yoga Tree San Francisco on June 3. The deal grows YogaWorks from five studios to 13 studios in the Bay Area and increases its national footprint to 38 locations across four markets in California and New York City.

"The acquisition of Yoga Tree allows us to add a group of very successful studios and skilled teachers to our team, supporting our mission to provide as many people as possible with a path to a healthier lifestyle, both emotionally and physically," YogaWorks CEO Phil Swain said in a statement.

YogaWorks is planning to expand with "several additional locations" in 2015, according to a company statement.

YogaWorks plans to continue operating the eight acquired Yoga Tree studios under the Yoga Tree name. Operations, classes, schedules and teachers will remain unchanged except for the Corte Madera, California, location, which is being retained by Yoga Tree co-founder Tim Dale.

Tim Dale and Tara Dale opened the first Yoga Tree location in 1999.

“We chose to partner with YogaWorks because they share our commitment to high-quality yoga and teacher training, respect for a wide variety of yoga styles, passion for studio diversity and a mission to deeply transform people's lives,” Tim Dale said in a statement.

Yoga Tree members will be able to use their classes and memberships at the five Bay Area YogaWorks studios (Larkspur, Mill Valley, San Francisco, Palo Alto and Walnut Creek) as part of the acquisition.

YogaWorks was founded in 1987 in Santa Monica and offers classes in several yoga disciplines. It has specialty programs for beginners, children, athletes, seniors and rehabilitation through what YogaWorks calls "safe, compassionate and skillful teaching." YogaWorks also offers teacher training and online yoga classes.
