24 Hour Member Dies after Crash in Parking Lot

A 24 Hour Fitness member crashed his vehicle into a pole in the Costa Mesa, CA, club’s parking lot and died.

The accident occurred last Thursday afternoon, according to the Orange County (CA) Register. Officials at the Orange County coroner’s office identified the accident victim as Steven Takei, 56, of Laguna Niguel, CA, the newspaper reported.

Takei’s sedan fell onto an unoccupied vehicle after striking the pole, police told the newspaper. Takei was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. No other injuries were reported.

Police, based on their initial investigation, believe Takei may have suffered a heart attack before the crash while behind the wheel, according to the report.

“24 Hour Fitness is deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of our members, and we extend our condolences to his family and friends,” 24 Hour said in a statement. “Out of respect for the member’s privacy, we are unable to provide additional details.”
