CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Midtown Athletic Clubs, a leading owner and operator of premium tennis and athletic clubs across the U.S. and Canada, today announced the executive appointments of Alex Schwartz as its corporate Chief Marketing Officer and Matt Tilburg as the General Manager of its flagship property, Midtown Athletic Club & Hotel in Chicago.
Schwartz is a veteran of leading global and boutique advertising agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi, Ogilvy, Johannes Leonardo and Anomaly. His campaigns for marquee brands, including Adidas, Spotify, Kiehl’s and Google, have won top awards from Cannes Lions, Ad Age and Webby.
Since joining Midtown in 2018, Schwartz has grown the organization’s marketing operations and helped the company rebound from the COVID-19 shutdowns to achieve the strongest membership levels in its 50-year history.
“Alex’s knowledge of brand-building and consumer segmentation have significantly bolstered Midtown’s ability to attract prospective members and associates,” said Midtown Athletic Clubs President, Jon Brady. “As CMO, he’ll have a broader platform to shape Midtown’s brand and we’re excited to see where his team will take the company in the coming years.”
Tilburg began his career at Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts where he mastered delivering industry-leading customer service. He entered the fitness industry 15 years ago with Equinox Group, where he held a variety of senior posts and opened the company’s flagship club in downtown Los Angeles. Tilburg then joined Life Time Fitness, where he managed club portfolios exceeding $50 million. In his new role, Tilburg will be responsible for leading operations at one of the world’s highest ranked athletic clubs following Midtown’s $75 million renovation of its flagship property in 2018.
“Matt’s track record of achievement at Four Seasons, Equinox and Life Time make him uniquely suited to excel at Midtown Chicago, which aims to be the highest quality athletic club and hotel in the world,” said Brady. “We believe Matt’s people-first leadership style and his ability to deliver preeminent customer service will further elevate the Midtown experience for our members and associates.”
