Shooting Outside YMCA in Cincinnati Claims Life of Teen Girl

A 17-year-old girl was fatally shot and two other teens were wounded Saturday night when a fight broke out outside a private birthday party held at the Melrose YMCA in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati.

Police identified the victim as Kelsie Crow, according to Cincinnati.com. She was found in the driver's seat of a crashed vehicle near the Melrose Y.  A 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were wounded and were in stable condition at a local hospital following surgery.

Police did not have anyone in custody in connection with the shootings.

Authorities say around 200 teens were attending the party, and "somewhere around 60 shots" were fired when the fight broke out.

The Y had rented the Melrose facility to a private group for the birthday party. The space "is occasionally rented by residents of the Walnut Hills community for various types of community and family gatherings," the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati said in a prepared statement.

The statement added that the Melrose Y was closed today as police continue to investigate the shootings.

"The Y is cooperating with police and community members to determine the facts of this tragic incident," the statement read. "...Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the three young people injured."

The Melrose location is scheduled to reopen tomorrow.
