Ohio Y Awarded City Recreation Services Contract

The YMCA of Central Ohio has taken over management of the municipal parks and recreation program in the city of Delaware, OH.

The Delaware City Council voted on Monday to approve a contract that will cede operations to the nonprofit organization for three years with immediate effect, according to local media reports.

Under the terms of the management contract, Delaware will pay the chapter an annual fee to manage the city's recreation programs and maintain its facilities, including the Mingo Park complex, which features a recreation center and an outdoor family leisure pool. The council believes that the arrangement will save the city $150,000 per year.

Prior to Monday's vote, Delaware and the Central Ohio Y already were partnering on a yet-to-be-completed recreation center that is due to begin operating in the fall. The nonprofit will manage the programming at the city-owned Delaware Community Center YMCA when it opens in November.
