Man Dies after Collapsing in Y Sauna

FRAMINGHAM, MA -- A 45-year-old man died after being found unconscious and burned in the sauna of a YMCA in suburban Boston.

Gary Kantor collapsed after suffering from a diabetic seizure, according to The MetroWest Daily News of Framingham, MA. His wife and children were elsewhere in the facility at the time. They discovered him, and Kantor’s wife began treating him for a seizure.

Rescuers reported that Kantor had first- and second-degree burns on his torso and legs. On Saturday, Sept. 25, he was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA, but died three days later.

Jeanne McAllister, president of MetroWest YMCA, said that the Y has investigated the incident and suspect Kantor came into contact with a heating element in the redwood sauna during the seizure.
