A fire in the men's sauna on Tuesday at the Casper (WY) Family YMCA resulted in a Y board member being taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, according to media reports.
The board member, Ron Wales, helped members combat the fire with fire extinguishers after alerting staff to the fire.
"We grabbed extinguishers, but there was heavy, heavy smoke," John Kirlin, school-age program director at the Y, told the Casper Star Tribune. "You could only see four feet in front of you, and in a matter of seconds, you couldn't breathe."
Wales' condition is not being disclosed.
The amount of damage caused to the facility is unknown at this time, but the Star Tribune reports that the fire occurred around 12:25 p.m. Tuesday, and by the time the fire department arrived, firefighters needed only to clear the smoke, so no water damage occurred. By later in the afternoon, much of the facility had re-opened. The Y's Facebook page says that the facility is open today, except for the men's health club.
