Good news in the club industry.
* Cathy Bornes, the manager of Hudson Valley Gym in Peekskill, N.Y., for winning the grand prize in an essay contest sponsored by IDEA. Essays had to answer the question, "What will fitness be like in the year 2525?" Judges looked at the entries for creativity, writing style and originality.
* Newlife Technologies, for distributing free heart-rate monitors to all the Paralympic athletes attending the Sydney, Australia games.
* Direct Focus, parent company of Nautilus, for being ranked No. 1 in Business Week's "Hot Growth Companies" for the year 2000. The company was selected from a pool of more than 10,000 businesses.
