Pure Barre Acquired by Xponential Fitness

Pure Barre, Spartanburg, South Carolina, is the latest addition to California-based Xponential Fitness' growing portfolio of boutique fitness brands, the companies announced Oct. 26. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Pure Barre, founded in 2001 by dancer Carrie Rezabek Dorr, is the largest barre-centric fitness chain in North America with 517 locations. It joins Yoga Six, Club Pilates, CycleBar, StretchLab, Row House and AKT under the Xponential umbrella.

"Pure Barre sets the standard for barre workouts not only in the U.S. but globally as well," Xponential Fitness CEO Anthony Geisler said in a media release. "The brand is truly best-in-class, and it has created a following of enthusiasts that is unmatched anywhere in the boutique fitness space. The addition of Pure Barre to our already robust portfolio of brands enhances our company and establishes Xponential as the number one curator of the best brands in the boutique fitness industry."

Private equity firm L Catterton, which invested in Pure Barre in 2015, contributed its investment into the acquisition, according to the release. (In recent years, L Catterton has also invested in other major fitness companies such as Peloton and Equinox.)

"The clear leader in barre fitness, Pure Barre is an attractive and highly successful lifestyle concept with tremendous growth prospects," Marc Magliacano, a managing partner in L Catterton's Flagship Buyout Fund, said in the release. "We have known Anthony Geisler and his team at Xponential Fitness since he acquired his first concept, Club Pilates, and are truly impressed by the portfolio of brands that Xponential has attracted. This transaction offers us a unique opportunity to foster Pure Barre's continued success as part of a powerful franchise platform in the U.S. and internationally. We’re delighted to become an investor in Xponential Fitness as they support the expansion of top boutique fitness franchises around the world."

In April, Pure Barre ranked No. 147 on Entrepreneurs' 2018 Franchise 500 list.

In other Xponential news, the company recently announced that Row House and StretchLab had both sold more than 100 franchise territories.

Club Pilates ranked No. 31 on Club Industry's Top 100 Health Clubs of 2018 list, reporting $47.55 in 2017 revenue—an increase of 77.6 percent from the brand's 2016 revenue.
