PMA Launches Public School Initiative

MIAMI -- The Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) is dedicating it's third annual International Pilates Day on May 6, 2006, to raising awareness of the nation's increasing inactivity and launching its new Pilates exercise initiative in the public school system.

"Our goal is to offer this Pilates initiative at no cost to the schools, as a public statement of the PMA's dedication to worldwide health,” said Kevin Bowen, executive director of the PMA said. “Through our pre-pilot study we have found that just a short Pilates routine a few times a week not only improved the children's physical fitness, but also resulted in increased mental focus and productivity in the classroom."

Pilates Day events will take place at participating studios worldwide with special appearances by well-known Pilates instructors at the Camp Pilates National Event at the Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa in Miami Beach, Florida. Day-long activities include mat class marathons, the availability of private Pilates sessions, lectures, a vendor area featuring Pilates equipment and merchandise, and the launch of the Pilates exercise initiative in the public school system.
