Life Time Opens Record-Sized Charlotte Club, SoulCycle Launches Pop-Up Studios, Xavier Eyes Wellness Complex

Life Time Athletic’s new $50 million facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, will open Dec. 21, according to the Charlotte Business Journal. The two-story, 320,000-square-foot club is located at 11220 Golf Links Drive and will be the brand’s largest facility in the country. Amenities include 10 tennis courts, an outdoor water complex, and a full-service indoor cafe and outdoor bistro. The brand has plans to open an athletic resort in Minnesota’s Twin Cities region in 2019, in partnership with Simon Property Group.

Xavier University and TriHealth broke ground earlier this month on a new $54 million Health United Building on Xavier's campus in Cincinnati, Ohio. The four-story, 160,000-square-foot facility will feature a fitness center, a health care facility and an academic space, according to Cincinnati.com, and is expected to open in August 2019. Amenities include a cafe, pool, pharmacy, exercise studios, basketball courts, seven counseling offices, 10 examination rooms,11 classrooms and numerous laboratories.

SoulCycle is hosting two pop-up studios called Destination SOUL in Aspen, Colorado, and Palm Beach, Florida. As previously reported by Club Industry, the former will open Dec. 21 and the latter launched Dec. 15. Both will run through Jan. 1. The brand does not have studios in either of these cities.

A $6 million renovation project broke ground earlier this month at the Petersburg YMCA, part of the YMCA of Greater Richmond, in Petersburg, Virginia. A 13,000-square-foot addition will include a new community kitchen, a special community room and extra space for youth programming, according to Jackson Newspapers. The project is expected to be completed in late 2018.

A new health club concept by former 24 Hour Fitness President Larry Gurney called Quevity opened Dec. 18 in Birmingham, Alabama. The club will host more than 120 small group exercise classes weekly, in  addition to providing lifestyle and nutrition coaching and cryotheraphy services, according to the Birmingham Business Journal

The YMCA of South Hampton Roads will open Jan. 1 in the site of the former Town Center Fitness on Town Center Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In addition to standard Y amenities, the 5,800-square-foot facility will feature HIIT training and other services for "those looking to challenge themselves and get optimal results," according to a media release by the Y.
