Life Time Opens 150,000-Square-Foot Resort at Former Houston City Club Site

Life Time, Chanhassen, Minnesota, is continuing its expansion in the Houston market with the Oct. 28 opening of a 150,000-square-foot resort at the renovated site of the former Houston City Club.

The $34 million resort, Life Time Greenway, is Life Time's 10th location in the greater Houston area. The company acquired the Greenway Plaza property in 2017—the same year the Houston City Club closed—and began construction in 2018.

"Life Time is very excited to bring something completely new to Houston here in Greenway Plaza," Life Time COO Jeff Zwiefel said in a media release. "Everything we create inside and outside of our building is designed with our members in mind and providing them all they need to live a healthy, happy life whether they're exercising, working, relaxing or spending time with family or friends. This is truly a special place."

The resort's signature feature is a 54,000-square-foot rooftop pool deck, which Zwiefel said is the only pool of its kind in the local market. Other highlights include a 5,500-square-foot Life Time Work lounge and a 3,000-square-foot LT Recovery space. The latter is a dedicated recovery area that offers metabolic assessments, nutrition coaching, physical therapy and various sports treatments.

Life Time Greenway also offers a LifeSpa, a LifeCafe, a Kids Academy, dedicated fitness studios, two basketball courts and an outdoor aquatic center.

In December 2018, Life Time opened a 255,000-square-foot club at Houston's Baybrook Mall.

Life Time operates nearly 150 facilities across 39 North American markets.

The company ranked No. 2 on Club Industry’s Top 100 Health Clubs of 2019 list with $1.750 billion in 2018 revenue, which was ascertained by sources in the industry, but not reported by Life Time directly. This represents a year-over-year increase of 12.9 percent.
