Personnel assigned to Naval Air Station Pensacola broke ground on two new visitors' quarters facilities. A $79-million contract was awarded to construct a 53,377-square-foot Physical Fitness Center (see U.S. Navy illustration above), a 34,844-square-foot Aviation Rescue Summer School and two new visitors' quarters. The projects, a result of the base's destruction from Hurricane Ivan in 2004, are expected to be completed in summer of 2007. The Physical Fitness Center will serve active duty, enlisted Department of Defense personnel, naval aviation rating students, base transient personnel, reservists and retirees at the base.

As the new chief operating officer of Crunch Fitness, David Fowler, a former Equinox Fitness executive, will oversee the operation of 32 locations as well as plans for the chain's expansion and development. Crunch also appointed Maggie Stevens as executive vice president of sales. Stevens joins Crunch from Town Sports International where she also worked as the vice president of sales.

Seventy dodgeball teams vied for prize money totaling $11,000 at Skyline Sport & Health Club in Falls Church, VA, in February. The response to the tournament, which attracted more than 500 amateur dodgeball players, was so encouraging that the management team plans to add dodgeball to its repertoire of fitness programs.

John Forcillo, owner of Body Cycle/Millenium Fitness, was killed in a car accident on Jan. 24. His wife, Mary, who is co-owner of the business, was seriously injured but is recovering. Forcillo, 53, started Millenium Fitness in 1997. He worked in the fitness industry for 25 years, previously as a gym owner. Funeral services were held Feb. 3 in Montreal.
