  • The Sports Club/LA has introduced Will, Power & Grace, what it calls a class for all fitness levels that is a highly intensive fusion of calisthenics, plyometrics and dance.

  • New Edge Networks, a national business broadband service provider, has completed installation of a private national data communications network for ICON Health and Fitness Inc.

  • Adirondack Pure Springs Mt. Water Co. Inc. and Bodyonics Ltd., have teamed to produce “Pinnacle WOW” Energy Drink, an entry into the multibillion-dollar energy drink industry. Pinnacle WOW, which stands for “Whacked Out Water,” is the first energy drink that is non-carbonated, sugar-free, calorie-free and infused with caffeine from natural sources, including Yerba Mate, Guarana and Kola Nut, according to the companies.

  • Life Time Fitness Inc. has appointed Michael J. Gerend as chief operating officer. Effective March 3, 2003, Gerend joined Life Time Fitness from Champion Air, the largest dedicated provider of charter airlift in the airline industry, where he served as president and chief executive officer since 1998. For Life Time Fitness, Gerend will hold responsibility for the company's major operational divisions, including its 29 nationally based sports, fitness and recreation center operations. He will also be responsible for continuing to drive the company's results orientation through effective process engineering. He will report to Bahram Akradi, Life Time Fitness founder, president and CEO.

  • Fortinet, a provider of ASIC-powered, network-based antivirus firewall systems for real-time network protection, has announced that Gold's Gym International has selected the FortiGate Antivirus Firewall to improve security and reduce operational costs.

  • ZonePerfect Nutrition Co. was awarded a gold medal for growth by the Nutrition Business Journal (NBJ), a trade publication that covers the nutrition industry.

  • David J. Pecker, chairman and CEO of American Media Inc., announced promotions at AMI's Weider Publications Active Lifestyle and Enthusiast Groups of magazines. Carolyn Bekkedahl was promoted to executive VP of AMI and publishing director of the Weider Active Lifestyle Group. Barbara S. Harris was promoted to EVP of AMI and editorial director of the Weider Active Lifestyle Group. Harris appointed Anne M. Russell to replace her as editor in chief of Shape. Thomas C. Deters was promoted to EVP of AMI and publishing director of the Weider Publications Enthusiast Group. Senior VP and enthusiast group editorial director Vincent Scalisi has renewed his contract. The Enthusiast Group consists of Muscle & Fitness, Flex, Muscle & Fitness, Hers and Men's Fitness.
