“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.”

Englewood/Montvale, NJ - (June 24, 2019) - The above quote from Elmer Davis is an important reminder for all of us on the different ways we can serve our country. Our brave men and women who choose to serve in the armed forces are willing to potentially put their lives on the line in order to preserve the precious freedoms that we enjoy every day.

Homes For Veterans, founded in 2011, is a non-profit organization that specially adapts the homes for disabled veterans for free and is based in Harrington Park, New Jersey. Over a total of $31,000 was raised this past year for the non- profit organization.

THE GYM has been a regular supporter of Homes For Veterans, raising over $64,000 since 2014. This past year THE GYM received more than $20,000 from local businesses and residents and even accepted donations from outside of New Jersey, in New York and from Massachusetts. John Stoffel, owner of Stoffel Polygon Systems in Tuckahoe, NY made a substantial contribution for which everyone is most thankful. Remember, every donation, no matter how much, counts!

“Thank you as always to THE GYM Englewood & THE GYM Montvale for your incredible support, strength and passion for our cause!, said Doug DiPaola, Founder of Homes For Veterans.

THE GYM sponsored its famed push-up contest at both GYM locations in Englewood and Montvale, New Jersey. Juan Pla, Fitness Director at THE GYM Montvale held a 25-hour marathon training session. Juan’s event raised over $7,000 for THE GYM. Working with Juan to help raise money for the foundation were James Siletti, US Air Force and Pete Kandel, US Marines in the Montvale location, and Lurressa Thomas U.S. Army, Daniel Pavas U.S. Marine Corps and Jessica Wolthoff U.S. Air Force in the Englewood location. There was also a dance class held in Englewood to help bring people together for the fundraiser.

“We can all make a difference. There are many more like Miguel who can use our help. It has been and will continue to be an honor to support such a noble cause, said Juan.

The November 2018 fundraiser was held in honor of United States Marine Jonah Eisenstark a veteran who had passed away earlier in 2018. Eisenstark’s mom and dad, Jacob and Blanche (Greenstein) Eisenstark, came to the November 2018 fundraiser to support THE GYM’s efforts. Eisenstark’s dad was also there when THE GYM presented the check to Homes For Veterans in December of last year.

“Such a great organization to support. So proud of our team for doing so much good,” said Lisa Bruchalski, Group Fitness Director, THE GYM Montvale.

One of the projects that also benefited from the November event was for United States Marine Corps Reservist and Roselle Park resident Miguel Martinez. Miguel, age 22, was a Marine reservist who was stationed in Red Bank, New Jersey.  He graduated from Roselle Park High School in 2013. Miguel was paralyzed from the waist down when he was involved in a motorcycle accident in July of 2016. Martinez recently received a Certificate of Recognition by the Borough of Roselle Park Mayor Carl Hokanson and Third Ward Councilman William Fahoury, both Marine Corps veterans, who presented the proclamation on behalf of the governing body to Miguel, who was in attendance with his father.

Some of the money raised for the Homes For Veterans fundraiser went to build a ramp for Martinez to allow him get into his home. Since his house was not built for wheelchair access, the team widened the entrance into the bathroom for Miguel. There is money left over for an additional project in the works coming up soon in Passaic County as well.

Thank you to our whole team of members, instructors, trainers and staff who all helped to contribute to this amazing organization in honor of Veterans Day Homes For Veterans, said Nurit Chasman, Group Fitness Director, THE GYM Englewood.,
