Industry Mourns Passing of Scott Dennis

Scott Dennis was planning to come to the Club Industry show last month in Las Vegas. He likely would have been preparing to go to this week’s Athletic Business Conference in New Orleans. His presence was and will be lost at both shows.

Dennis, owner and president of equipment supplier Fitness Resource Group Inc., died on Oct. 9 in Overland Park, KS. He was 42. Dennis had worked in sales as the key account manager for Cybex International, Medway, MA, and was the Midwest territory sales manager for Precor, Woodinville, WA. At Fitness Resource Group, which Dennis founded in 2010, Dennis maintained his territorial contacts in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Arkansas.

Larry Domingo worked with Dennis at Precor from 2004 through 2009 when Domingo was Precor’s vice president of sales.

“He loved this industry and the customers in it as much as anyone I’ve ever met,” Domingo says. “He was as hard a working guy as I’ve ever met. He really, really sweated every little detail he could for his customers. Scott was unquestionably No. 1 in market penetration in his territory.”

Dennis, a former football player at Temple University in Philadelphia, is survived by his wife, Dawn, daughter, Tatum Dennis, and son, Max Cummins, as well as his parents, George and Shareld Dennis, one brother and one sister. The funeral was held Oct. 12 in Wichita, KS.

“The same day the [Club Industry] show was going on in Vegas, many people from the industry left to go pay their respects, and many customers of his were there,” Domingo said. “I loved Scott like a little brother.”
