Chuze Fitness, San Diego, has acquired EP Fitness, El Paso, Texas, for an undisclosed sum,Chuze Fitness announced on Nov. 15.
With this acquisition, low-priced brand Chuze Fitness not only added five clubs to its existing 30 locations, but it also expanded to Texas after previously only serving California, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico.
The acquisition closes in November, but the El Paso gyms will continue to operate under the EP Fitness name and branding into 2023, according to Chuze Fitness.
“At its heart, Chuze is a hospitality brand all about building local communities, and that’s what initially drew us to EP Fitness,” Cory Brightwell, co-founder and CEO of Chuze Fitness, said in the announcement. “I grew up in Texas, alongside my friend and fellow Chuze co-founder Nick Barshick, so those roots and community mindset are incredibly important to both of us — especially as Chuze grows. EP Fitness and Chuze are very synergistic, and we really admire the brand that Scott has carefully built over the past 37 years and are thrilled to build upon his legacy.”
Scott Kubitz, owner and CEO of Flex Enterprises, launched EP Fitness out of a passion for bodybuilding and healthy living, according to the announcement.
“This acquisition is an exciting milestone for EP Fitness, and we couldn’t be happier that it’s with a company like Chuze that shares our same values and goals,” Kubitz said. “They’ve been a tremendous partner over the past few months, so we’re excited to enter a new era for EP Fitness and continue to serve El Paso, a city I love with all my heart, with additional support and resources.”
