Bright Spot: D1 Training Experiences Record-Breaking Revenue Months Since June 2020

As the fitness industry continues to rebound from the impacts of the pandemic, D1 Training has sustained consistent record-breaking revenue months since June 2020. Our secret? Supercharging sales with a refined focus on sharpening our programing, accelerating innovation and leaning on culture as a core driver of member engagement.

There is no doubt that the last year and a half has been challenging for everyone, but its effects were especially felt among community-focused businesses and their patrons, who relied on human connection as part of their routine. We remained committed to our purpose and persevered with our same-store total revenue up nearly 70 percent year-over year (2020 vs. 2021). Our top performing programs are scholastics (up 80 percent year-over-year) and personal training (up 106 percent year-over-year).

One of our main differentiators, and what makes D1 a game changer in the industry, is our scholastic training that makes up more than 61 percent of total revenue. Simply put, there is no other fitness franchise offering a focus on the scholastic athlete quite like we do — so we leaned in.

Amid the pandemic, scholastic sports came to a halt. Children no longer had access to physical education, organized sports, recess or any other physical activity that was tied to school — wreaking havoc on the lifestyle they once knew. During a time where schools went online and scholastic athletic programs were put on pause, D1 stepped in to make sure kids had an outlet to workout, train, play sports and achieve their sport and fitness goals.

To ensure a strong connection with our adult members, we accelerated innovation efforts to find new ways to connect and keep the D1 community intact. As a response, we launched our D1toU program to help unite members outside of the gym and keep individuals accountable for working toward and achieving their fitness goals. Members received coaching accountability three times per week through Zoom, text or a phone call to go over the workouts in-depth while evaluating goals. D1toU also includes nutrition accountability, using nutrition templates and guides that ensure members are maintaining a healthy lifestyle to accompany the fitness aspect of training.

D1 Training is more than turf, weights and loud music — we are a community of people with character and values, with goals to improve inside and out. Whether it be in the gym or virtual, we’ve continued to cultivate an overall brand experience relying on the genuine, trusting and positive relationships with our members.

As a result of our strength and performance amid the pandemic and beyond, new owners are flocking to the D1 franchise opportunity as it fills a void in communities nationwide with a unique service offering that previously did not exist. Whether it be those looking to escape corporate America, families going into business together, or professional athletes such as Tim Tebow, Peyton Manning, and Von Miller, our brand is gaining national attention with top-tier entrepreneurs ready to invest.

We have signed 15 franchise agreements comprising 31 units year-to-date with more than 180 additional ones open or in various stages of development. Our D1 family is growing with passionate franchise partners who truly engrain themselves in their community with giveback initiatives, camps, events, etc. — that go above and beyond in making a difference in supporting everyday athletes as they achieve their fitness goals.
