Equinox, New York, opened its first location in Houston Thursday.
The 33,000-square-foot club opened in the new River Oaks District and became the company's third Texas location. The other two locations are in Dallas.
Equinox scouted Houston for several years but waited to find the right location, Equinox President Sarah Robb O'Hagan told CultureMap Houston.
"If it means we have to wait a few extra years to get it absolutely bang on, we will do that," O'Hagan told CultureMap Houston. "It's a jackpot location without a doubt. It was worth waiting for."
The upscale River Oaks District opened in October with 85 percent of the locations leased and with 95 percent of the retailers new to the Houston market, according to the Houston Business Journal. Other tenants include Cartier, Tom Ford and iPic-Gold Class Entertainment LLC's luxury movie theater. The development includes 92,000 square feet of office space and 279 apartments.
Equinox has 81 locations in the United States and one location in London.
Equinox ranked No. 4 on Club Industry's Top 100 Clubs list of 2015 with an estimated revenue of $882 million in 2014, according to a source.
