Equinox plans to open a new club in New York City in 2016, according to a New York real estate publication.
The Commercial Observer reports New York-based Equinox signed a 25-year, 32,000-square-foot lease at SL Green Realty Corp.'s 10 East 53rd Street in Manhattan's Plaza District. The rent for the new Equinox club could be close to $200 per square foot. From the Observer:
The spokeswoman for SL Green didn't disclose the asking rents at the property between Fifth and Madison Avenues. But Midtown retail sites, which encompass all available retail spaces in properties between 35th and 59th Streets, command an average asking rent of $198 per square foot, according to the latest retail rent report from the Real Estate Board of New York.
A spokesperson for Equinox declined comment on the report to Club Industry.
Equinox, which opened a 35,000-square-foot club in Lower Manhattan in 2013 in Battery Park City, recently announced plans for a 30,000-square-foot club in Glendale, CA, that will open early next year.
