Senior Center Remodels to Remain Competitive with YMCA, Planet Fitness

The Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, recently finished a $500,000 remodeling project to keep it competitive with other area fitness clubs.

The project started about eight months ago and half of the time went into fundraising, according The Daily Nonpareil. The funds went into updating the men’s and women’s bathrooms, and added more space for lockers. The project at the senior-only facility (ages 50 and over) also included new carpeting, cardio equipment and rehab equipment.

“It was a much needed refurbishment,” Center Board President Steve O’Neill told The Daily Nonpareil. “We need to stay up with the times and the needs of our members.”

Interim Center President Mike Wallner cited competition from the YMCA and Planet Fitness in the report.

“We need to compete,” Wallner said. “This is what we had to do to stay competitive in the market.”
