Sanitation Issues Temporarily Close LA Fitness Club in Chicago Area

An LA Fitness club in Morton Grove, IL, which was previously a Bally Total Fitness club, reopened last week after it was closed for sanitation reasons.

The locker room issues included broken shower equipment, clogged toilets, no toilet paper and no soap, according to local media reports. The village of Morton Grove, just north of Chicago, received complaints from members and shut the club down on Feb. 22. At the time of the closing, about 75 members were working out in the club, according to one report.

The club reopened two days later after an inspection from Morton Grove officials. Upon the reopening of the club, Morton Grove distributed a press release that stated it will continue to work with the management and corporate officials of LA Fitness “to ensure the facility is and remains in full compliance with all village building codes and health and safety regulations.”

LA Fitness acquired 171 Bally clubs late last year, including all 27 Bally clubs in the Chicago area.
