Two Gold's Gym locations in Spartanburg, South Carolina, have been sold to Planet Fitness, according to a WSPA-7 report. The Gold's Gym employees were notified of the change on June 24. Separately, Planet Fitness is expected to open a mall location in Racine, Wisconsin, by early August, and two locations are coming to the Tacoma, Washington, area by the end of the year.

Former NFL player Kevin Johnson opened his 120,000-square-foot Team85 Fitness and Wellness center in Bordentown, New Jersey, in January. Team85 is part of a $50 million Team Campus Bordentown complex that Johnson owns and leases to businesses in athletic training, health care, fitness and physical therapy, according to The Courier-Post.

Commerce City, Colorado, is expected to begin construction of a $60 million recreation center at the end of this summer, according to the Denver Post. In addition, plans are being finalized for a second recreation center set to open by the end of 2018 in Commerce City, which is growing Denver suburb.

LA Fitness has gained approval from the Seal Beach, California, Planning Commission to build a 37,000-square-foot club in the Shops at Rossmoor Center, according to a Sun Newspapers report. Seal Beach is located between Long Beach and Huntington Beach in the Los Angeles metro area.

The Anytime Fitness in Portage, Wisconsin, held a grand reopening after a $200,000 renovation project. The project's details are profiled by the Portage Daily Register.

9Round held a grand opening in El Paso, Texas, this week. The club was opened by a former assistant principal, Martha Arana, who dreamed of opening her own fitness center for years, according to the El Paso Times.

Orangetheory Fitness plans to open a location in Dyer, Indiana, on July 1, according to

MUV Brands announced a signed lease to open a MUV Training boutique concept in the Hazel Dale area of Vancouver, Washington.  The 4,000-square-foot boutique gym will be the second standalone MUV Training location and will join three in-club MUV Training locations in South Carolina.  The new location will feature functional strength-style training with wearable heart rate technology, TRX, cardio, barre, yoga and Pilates. MUV Brands CEO Joel Tallman recently announced the opening of the 10th MUV Fitness full-service concept in West Columbia, South Carolina. New MUV Training and MUV Fitness locations are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, Tallman said.

Louisville, Colorado, voters in November will have two ballot questions related to funding for expansion of the Louisville Recreation and Senior Center. Construction estimates are between $28 million and $30 million, and annual operations costs are expected to be $750,000, according to Colorado Hometown Weekly.

The Palm Beach, Florida, Town Council unanimously voted on June 14 to move forward on a plan to build a new recreation center. The $15 million project is billed as a more modern facility that will serve as a social hub, according to the Palm Beach Daily News.

NorthBay Healthcare will open its 56,000-square-foot Health Spring Fitness in Vacaville, California, this week. Amenities include four pools, group exercise studios, cardio equipment with personal viewing systems and new strength training equipment.

Plans for the $35 million Austin, Minnesota, Community Recreation Center project may have unraveled. The Austin YMCA board tabled operating agreements approved by the city in a June 23 meeting. The city responded with a statement calling the board's decision "wholly unanticipated, unprecedented and quite frankly shocking," according to the Post-Bulletin.

The YMCA of Michiana opened the doors to its newest branch, the Edison Lakes Family YMCA, in Mishawaka, Indiana, on June 25. The branch is located in the former Pinnacle Athletic Club, according to WSBT-22.

The Brooks Family YMCA under construction in Charlottesville, Virginia, is on track to open in summer 2017. The 79,000-square-foot facility will include a 10-lane competition pool, family pool, two basketball courts, an indoor walking track, a mind and body studio, and a fitness room, according to a construction update from Charlottesville Tomorrow.

The Eugene Family YMCA in Eugene, Oregon, will spend approximately $400,000 in a project to renovate four indoor courts at its Patterson Street location. The Y plans to have a grand reopening the weekend after Labor Day, according to the Register Guard.

The Village of Orland Park, Illinois, is expected to take ownership of the Palos Health and Fitness Center in July, according to The Regional News. The Village and Palos Community Hospital reached an agreement in March to save the facility from destruction.

Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, closed its Sheridan Sports and Fitness Center on June 18 for renovations that are expected to take a year to complete. One major component of the renovation involves renovating its current workout area and neighboring basketball area to a fully functional fitness section, according to the Northwest Guardian.

Viking Fitness opened in May near downtown Tampa Bay, Florida, in the city's Channel District. The gym has an 800-square-foot lobby that promotes social wellness, one of five areas of wellness the center promotes, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

CrossFit gym ICE NYC has signed a deal to open its second location in New York City. The 7,000-square-foot gym will open in the fall on the Upper East Side, and 2014 CrossFit Games champion Camille LeBlanc-Bazinet is the ICE NYC's director of programming, according to the Commercial Observer.
