Ohio Club Owner Gets 90 Days in Jail

A club owner in Ohio was sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years of community control for not paying more than $600,000 in state sales tax.

Donald Stump, owner of Lifestyles for Ladies Only, received the sentence on Tuesday in Lucas County (OH) Common Pleas Court. Stump was led away in handcuffs after the sentence, according to media reports.

A judge also ordered Stump to pay monthly amounts in back sales taxes of $611,066.23, the Toledo Blade reported. Stump’s attorney had asked the judge to consider probation, but he was denied. If Stump fails to make the regularly scheduled payments, he could face up to 17 months in prison, the newspaper reported.

Last fall, Stump pleaded no contest to one count of failure to remit sales taxes and had a second charge dropped as part of a plea agreement. He was found guilty of not paying the sales taxes over a five-year period for his two Lifestyles for Ladies Only clubs in the Toledo area. Stump has involvement with other clubs in Michigan, but the allegations were for only the two Toledo-area clubs, according to the newspaper.
