IHRSA 2021 Moves Date, Location Due to COVID-19 Concerns

The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) is moving its 40th Annual IHRSA International Convention & Trade Show (IHRSA 2021) from Los Angeles, to Dallas, the trade association announced this week.

In addition, the event, which normally occurs in March and was moved to September due to COVID-19 concerns has been delayed to Oct. 13-15.

The shift from Los Angeles to Dallas is to ensure that IHRSA members, industry partners, federations and attendees from around the world will be able to safely attend.

“Because of the current COVID-19 restrictions in Los Angeles County, hosting IHRSA 2021 in Los Angeles this September as previously planned is too uncertain,” said Brent Darden, IHRSA interim president and CEO. “The IHRSA Board of Directors, Industry Partner Advisory Council and IHRSA staff unanimously agreed that moving the convention to Dallas was the best path forward for our industry and attendees.”

Alan Leach, CEO of the West Wood Clubs in Dublin, Ireland, and chair-elect of the IHRSA Board of Directors, said he was confident about the move, noting that the later date allow a few more crucial weeks for those who may need the extra time to get the vaccine or appropriate approvals in order to travel.

In some countries, the vaccine is not yet widely distributed, and the IHRSA event draws attendees and vendors from around the world.
