Ex-Club Owner Sentenced in MN Tax Case

MOORHEAD, MN -- A club owner who continued to do business after his sales tax permit was revoked will serve five years probation.

Kurt Ross, who owned the Moorhead (MN) Racquetball and Fitness Club, entered a guilty plea for a sales-tax felony, according to The Forum of Fargo, ND. In exchange for the guilty plea, four other tax-related felonies were dropped, the newspaper reported.

Ross’ tax permit was revoked after he failed to file state income tax returns from 2003 to 2005 for the club, according to the Minnesota Department of Revenue. The club closed in August 2008 after it was evicted by Concordia College, which owned the building that housed the club. Ross allegedly owed the Moorhead college $27,000 in 10 months’ worth of unpaid rent.

Ross is required to file tax returns as a condition of his probation, the newspaper reported.
