2020 IDEA World Convention Cancelled Due to COVID-19 Crisis

IDEA Health & Fitness Association, San Diego, has cancelled the 2020 IDEA World Convention, IDEA World Club & Studio Summit, and IDEA World Nutrition & Behavior Change Summit, the association announced. The convention and its specialty events, originally scheduled for July 8-12, in Anaheim, California, were called off due to public health and safety concerns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

IDEA is looking at alternative channels to deliver some of the content that had been planned at the event and will share more details in the coming weeks.

“Despite making every effort to host the event as planned or to postpone it, the reality is that it cannot take place due to uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 crisis,” said Rebecca Garity, senior director of IDEA events. “Government and public health officials have yet to offer clarity as to when the current bans on large gatherings and California’s shelter-in-place order will be lifted, which makes it impossible to know when IDEA World can be hosted safely. While this is a difficult decision, cancelling the in-person event is the right thing to do given the extreme and uncertain conditions.”

The 2020 IDEA World Convention was on pace to be one of the largest fitness and wellness events in IDEA’s  history, according to the association. With more than 11,000 fitness, wellness, nutrition, business and mind-body professionals—including exhibit hall attendees and sponsors—gathering from more than 60 countries.

Dates for 2021 events are:

  • 2021 IDEA Personal Trainer Institute in Alexandria, Virginia, February 18-21, 2021
  • 2021 IDEA World Convention and IDEA World Club & Studio Summit in Anaheim, California, July 7-11, 2021
