The escapades of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford seem to get crazier and crazier by the hour. And now, New York Sports Clubs, operated by Town Sports International, is getting into the act with another one of its newsmaker ad campaigns.
On Monday, Philadelphia TV news editor Joshua Crompton (read his inspirational story here) tweeted out an advertisement from a New York newspaper. The message from New York Sports Clubs read: "Hey Toronto mayor, looks like you have two crack problems." Then underneath in lighter font is the line: "Join now and November's FREE."
One of the crack problems the ad refers to is Ford's recent admission that he smoked crack cocaine. The other crack problem, apparently, refers to Ford's obesity, which causes his pants to fall below his waist just enough so that the crack of his backside appears. That's the educated guess here.
Ford, who was lampooned over the weekend on "Saturday Night Live," told FOX News on Sunday that he's "in the gym for two hours every day." Whether he's working out for the entire two hours that he's in the gym is another matter.
TSI has poked fun at newsmakers in past advertisements. Recent targets that have been exposed on social media include Alex Rodriguez, Kim Jong-un, Obamacare and Anthony Weiner. The A-Rod and Obamacare ads are cute, the Kim Jong-un one borders on risqué and the Anthony Weiner/Carlos Danger ad pushes the envelope completely off the table.
In the case of Rob Ford, did TSI go too far? Or is nothing off-limits with him at this point?
