When one of your staff members leaves your health club to work for another company, how do you feel? Emotions can range from anger to relief to indifference to a number of other emotions. When Club Industry staff members leave, I wish them well because I know they are leaving so they can take the next step in their career.
Even so, I feel sad to say good-bye to each person, but I also feel excited by the wide open opportunity that each departure creates. For the new person we invite into our fold, Club Industry is the next step in his or her career, and every new person to Club Industry brings new insights, skills and value that improve the brand in some way.
That is what we know our new content producer, Eric Stromgren, will do for us. Eric not only has award-winning writing skills, an easy-going attitude and a love of fitness, but he also has a keen interest in digital and the ability to dive into the numbers behind our website, e-newsletter and social media traffic to help us deliver even better news and content to you.
Eric has nearly 10 years of daily newspaper experience. He spent the last two years working for Gannett Co., first as a digital producer for the St. Cloud Times in Minnesota and then as a digital producer for The Tennessean in Nashville. He was the Nashville Predators reporter in his most recent position with The Tennessean. Prior to Gannett, Eric covered a variety of sports in Minnesota for seven years in different positions with the Austin Daily Herald, Owatonna People's Press and Bemidji Pioneer.
Eric was part of a team at The Tennessean that won a multimedia award for a digital documentary project in the 2014 Associated Press Sports Editors national contest. He also won 12 individual sports journalism awards from the Minnesota AP. The Duluth, Minnesota native has a bachelor's degree in mass communications from St. Cloud State University.
Eric credits joining a fitness club in 2008 for reaching his weight loss and health goals. He enjoys golfing, skiing, hockey, distance hiking and training for his next half marathon.
We look forward to beginning this new chapter in the Club Industry world.
