Anytime Fitness, Hastings, MN, has announced John Pindred as its new chief financial officer and has broken ground on its new corporate headquarters.
Pindred replaces Gerry Thomas, who served as CFO for Anytime Fitness for the past seven years. Thomas will be pursuing other interests, Anytime Fitness spokesperson Mark Daly told Club Industry.
Pindred also will serve as the CFO for Waxing the City Worldwide LLC, which is partially owned by Anytime co-founders Chuck Runyon and Dave Mortenson.
Pindred joins Anytime Fitness after serving as CFO and chief administrative officer for Family Christian, a national specialty retail chain based in Grand Rapids, MI. Last year, Pindred was named Middle Market CFO of the Year in Western Michigan.
"[Pindred] arrives with deep finance experience in big box and specialty retailing, business development and finance roles in commodity production and trading," Runyon said in a statement. "We're excited for John to help us strengthen our growth plans and explore new franchising opportunities."
Mortenson added: "John's vast experience with financial operations in the retail industry—along with a strong track record of business development and various leadership roles—will be a great asset to our evolving company."
Last month, Anytime Fitness broke ground on its new headquarters in Woodbury, MN, a Twin Cities suburb. The 80,000-square-foot office building is being called a "national model for worksite wellness" by Anytime Fitness, according to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal. The building, which is expected to open in the spring of 2016, will be surrounded by biking and hiking trails and exercise areas, and a second phase will include zip lines, an obstacle course and climbing walls, the Business Journal reported.
Plans for the new headquarters were first announced in January. At the time, the company had hoped to begin construction in the spring and open in mid-to-late 2015.
