Anytime Fitness, the world’s fastest-growing fitness club, honored Boston-based InnerCity Weightlifting with a “2i” (to inspire) award at the franchise’s annual conference in Florida last weekend. The award includes a $2,500 donation from Anytime Fitness and ten personal training scholarships presented by ACE, the American Council on Exercise.

InnerCity Weightlifting’s mission is to reduce violence and promote professional, personal and academic achievement among urban youth. The non-profit organization works with young people at the highest risk in order to reduce youth violence by getting students off the streets and into the gym, where they are empowered with the confidence and positive support needed to say no to violence and yes to opportunity.

“Each year we honor an organization or individual who exemplifies the Anytime Fitness mission of improving the self-esteem of the world,” said Chuck Runyon, CEO and co-founder of Anytime Fitness. “The positive influence that InnerCity Weightlifting has on young people is life-changing. In bestowing our ‘2i’ award upon the organization, we hope to raise awareness of the important work that they are doing so that others will be moved to act in a similar fashion.” WATCH INNERCITY WEIGHTLIFTING VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEtI6QCmS-4

“We are thrilled to be able to support Anytime Fitness and InnerCity Weightlifting on this incredibly important effort,” said Janet Frenkel, COO for the American Council on Exercise. “InnerCity Weightlifting has done an incredible job of inspiring and innovating the way we train and deliver education and programming to a diverse population and they deserve all the help and support we in the industry can provide.”

Featured earlier this summer in a short film by ESPN, InnerCity Weightlifting takes young men who society gave up on long ago and teaches them a new meaning of strength, according to the film’s producers.

“InnerCity Weightlifting is truly honored to receive the 2i award from Anytime Fitness,” said Josh Feinman, InnerCity Weightlifting Program Director. “Being recognized by an organization that shares the same core belief of using fitness as a platform to build life-changing relationships is extremely meaningful. The ACE personal training scholarships will provide opportunities to our students that just a short time ago may not have seemed possible. Thank you Anytime Fitness and ACE!”
