Facility Upgrade Will Bring Expanded Fitness Center to University in Texas

Trinity University in San Antonio has planned a $14.2 million renovation of its athletic center.

A multilevel fitness facility will be a key element of a $14.2 million renovation of Bell Athletic Center at Trinity University in San Antonio.

The university says about 10,000 square feet will be added to the northeast corner of the center, which will enable the school to provide more than twice the size of the existing weight and cardio facilities.

The $14.2 million overhaul of the Bell Athletic Center will begin later this year and is expected to be completed in 2016, the university says.

The new fitness center will open to all Trinity students, faculty and staff.

Other improvements planned for the facility:

  • Conversion of five of the seven racquetball/squash courts into a 4,000-square-foot strength training room. The existing weight room is only 2,500 square feet.
  • Expanded and upgraded locker rooms, athletic training facilities and a new strength training room for Trinity student-athletes.
  • Upgrades to mechanical and filtration systems in the natatorium.
  • New bleachers, scoreboards, scoring tables, and locker rooms in the gymnasium.
