A woman has died after she apparently drowned in the swimming pool of a fitness club in Hartford, CT, according to multiple media outlets.

The Hartford Courant and NBC Connecticut reported the death Tuesday afternoon. A woman, identified as Jeanne Chiang, 61, was found unconscious in the pool at Fitness Squared in downtown Hartford. Police, firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene at 4 p.m., the newspaper reported, and paramedics performed CPR. Chiang was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital.

At a news conference, police said the death was a drowning but added Chiang may have suffered a medical issue while in the water, the TV station reported. Police also said they do not know who called 911 and that there are no signs of foul play.

An autopsy is expected Wednesday on Chiang, whose family has been notified, police said.

Fitness Squared is a 50,000-square-foot corporate fitness and wellness facility that includes a 25-yard swimming pool, according to its website. The club is undergoing renovations, the newspaper reported.
