The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has purchased LA Boxing, Santa Ana, CA, and the plan is to convert the clubs into UFC Gyms.
UFC President Dana White announced the acquisition today in Las Vegas while speaking to a trade group at the New Media Expo, according to MMAWeekly.com.
Last May, LA Boxing told Club Industry it had 70 open locations and 60 under development. The company generated $3.7 million in revenue in 2011.
According to Entrepreneur magazine's Franchise 500 list, LA Boxing, which was founded in 1992, reported 65 locations (55 franchises and 10 company-owned clubs) in 2012. LA Boxing was ranked No. 469 on the list.
UFC Gym, launched by New Evolution Ventures (NeV), Lafayette, CA, in 2009, has four locations in California and one in Hawaii. A UFC Gym is set to open this spring in Long Island, NY, and the first international gym is set to open next month in Sydney, Australia.
